TIPS: HOW TO GET YOUR BOOK WRITTEN

Tip: Always dreamed of being a published author and holding a book in your hands featuring your ideas? How about looking at your own author photo on that book staring back at you?
The most common problem with publishing a book is actually just getting it written. Publishing a book these days is a snap (but not fraught with certain problems if you don’t know what you’re doing). The actual writing and completing a manuscript is what holds most people back.
The problem is they just don’t know what to do to get it done. It’s like dieting; if you don’t work at it everyday, you don’t lose the weight. Writing a book is really no different. It just takes a little effort every day and in a relatively short period (even as little as one month), you can can a finished book to sign and sell!
How to get your book written:
Tip #1: Choose one hour a day to write. Choose time you have free (no kids or responsibilities). Turn off the TV and go to your computer and write.
Tip #2: Give yourself a treat. Sometimes just writing for the sake of getting it done isn’t enough. If you promise yourself something special for doing the task, it will make it fun. For instance, if you write for an hour, you get to have cookies and milk (or ice cream, or a slice of pizza…). If you write consistently for a week, you get to take Sunday off (or have a margarita, or buy a new pair of shoes…). Make it something you really like and make small treats your prize for each day you complete your task and give yourself something extra special each week if you get a large chunk done.
Tip #3: Write a certain amount of words every day. If you choose to write 1,200 words a day, or 2,300 or whatever you feel is a good goal for you, you will give youself incentive. (You’ll check the word count on Word a lot, but you’ll feel like you’re working for something). It’s like exercise; if you decide to spend 30 minutes on the treadmill, you watch the clock, but you do it. Give yourself the same “to do” list for your writing.
Choose ONE tactic and try it for a week. If it doesn’t seem to work for you, try another. You’re an adult; you know what you’ll do and won’t do so choose accordingly. If you don’t, I can guarantee another month will go by and you still won’t have it done. Wouldn’t it be great to have a book done by this time next month?

Some nice little pointers about how you can keep the writing ball rolling. I’m particular fond of dangling those carrots in the forms of treats, myself!
