Contacted the vendor who does answer their email…when they get around to it. First told “No fair! We needed extra time to do others first, then yours.” So I waited patiently. Next contact wasn’t so happy. They told me that “We don’t just pull anyone off the street. We have to find the right actress.” Say what? You offer FAST service, but don’t have the talent in-line to actually do the job?

Still waiting… BTW, I’ve reported them as fraudulent because at this point I’m out the money (Paypal doesn’t back up digital orders), so live and learn!

I found I could a lot less Google advertising (thankfully, for my little budget) and a lot more selling and collecting leads for my ezine. It was of the very best things I’ve done and it continues to work for me today. For advertising your self-published, or even traditionally published books, try placing ads on sites where the audience can see you easily.

In other words, stick to homepages, or well-viewed pages. Don’t get ads on cluttered classified sites or buried on a page that might not get a ton of traffic (except from others who are also advertising on that page). Pay a little extra for the home page or high visibility page (testimonial pages are good). You’ll start to get more traffic and if you use that traffic wisely, you’ll see a boost in your sales, too!

Whew…us who have been around the block a time or two, know that’s just a starting point. To truly market and sell your book, you need a pretty well orchestrated program. First, you need to get it out there with some great exposure. Press releases (and not just one), articles, interviews, videos, etc., are all required. Then you’ve got to get to your targeted audience with all of that. Hopefully you’ve got a list of opt-in subscribers or something where you can market this book. If not, start today!

Also, do you have a website? Is is a good site, just devoted to you and your book and selling it? It should be. You need payment buttons, call to action and a good design so people know what to do and what you’re all about. Another thing: Do you have a blog? It’s pretty much standard action these days, but all authors should have a blog to not only promote the book, but also themselves, their credibility and their knowledge.

You can get caught up with researching book marketing for days (if not weeks), but the bottom line is: Make sure you’ve got the basic marketing principles in-hand and work to promote your book just about every day. If you are consistent, you will see results!

Of course, they want it all, but you’re going to give them enough of the why and what without giving them the how. This is a key strategy used by so many marketers, and it’s actually a bit tired and people are onto it. However, with some updated tweaks you can still use it to your advantage.

NO. 1 technique? Source the pain. Your prospects have a pain of some sort (no money, overweight, no love, etc.). This is where most marketing keys in. You have a pain; they can solve it. If you start with the pain source, you’re grabbing your listeners and letting them know “you feel their pain.”

NO. 2: Once you get the pain understanding, you can fill that empty space in your prospect by delivering the promise. The promise is the part that gives them hope; that makes them start to feel like maybe that pain could be allieved after all.

Then you bring in NO. 3: Proof. Show how you have indeed helped alleviate the pain in someone else. Give testimonials, tell stories about people who were, not so long ago, in the very shoes of your audience and feeling that pain. Then you stepped in and with your killer tools, training and techniques, they have changed their life. (A little dramatic, but you get what I mean.)

When you’re rounding it all up, you give out the program or the plan you have that can help them. They’ve been through the pain, the understanding, the connection, the success stories…now you unveil what exactly you can do to help them. This is a transitory time–away from pain and to the hopeful part of the future.

If you position your offer in this way, you can start making your offers much more appealing to those who need whatever you offer. Don’t make videos that yell at people or don’t talk about the past pain they may feel. If you all you offer is “what I can do for you today” (reeks of used car salesman), it comes off as really what’s in it for you, not them. If you try to connect with them and build that connection before you thrust your offer out there, you’ll be amazed at how much better your bottom line will start to appear.
